Company History:
Owing to the fact that the currently available
methods of treatments for osteoarthritic diseases are invasive,
and recovery is often complicated by age, inflammation and
patients prolonged reliance on a variety of pain medications,
the founders of TissueGene sought to find alternative and
novel therapuetics for orthopedic disease. The overall deteriorating
quality of life associated with complications resulting are
from prolonged and difficult recoveries to a variety of degenerative
disease and inflammatory responses. In light of this, TissueGene
has focused its attention on the regenerative aspects of ones
own body to solve these problems.
Starting in 1997, the founders of TissueGene
sought to uncover different surgical and gene-based therapeutics
for a variety of arthritic conditions. The diligence soon
paid off in the form of the first successful animal model
for cartilage repair. Subsequently, in the middle of 1999,
TissueGene, Inc
was incorporated in the United States.
TissueGene's
initial findings resulted in the focused development of a
proprietary cell mediated genetic technology capable of treating
and regenerating damaged tendons, ligaments, cartilage and
bones. The company began using a form of cell mediated gene
therapy to deliver a regenerative protein to damaged tissue,
which catalyzes rapid and permanent repair of the injured
site without the need for surgery.
By the end of 1999, TissueGene
had successfully recruited several scientists and began assembling
a top notch management team. With the laboratory operational,
the company focused on expanding its patent portfolio and
enhancing its business model by applying for international
patent protection.
In the meantime, TissueGene
relocated its laboratory and business operations to the technology
corridor in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Soon after moving to the
east coast, the company was granted its first US patent.
TissueGene
has continued to enhance its global partnerships in order
to effectively utilize resources in the most efficient manner.
Our innovative cost control mechanisms, vision for strategic
alliances, international partnerships and outsourcing is paving
the way for the future success of the company in this competitive
and global marketplace.
